The laws of motion could be categorized according to the number of cycles.

The examples given in the textbook are laws of motion with 1, 2 or 3 cycles. Laws with 4, 5 or 6 cycles are also conceivable.

The maximum number of cycles is given by the number of states (in this case, the permitted state transitions consist of each state transitioning into itself).
